Gemini CLI agent broke or deleted your code? What to do

General steps, not an official fix from Google. My AI Gripe is independent and isn’t affiliated with any AI company.

Stop the agent and don’t run anything else in that folder until you’ve looked at what changed.
Check version control first: git status and git diff show what changed, and git can restore committed files. Then check the tool’s own checkpoints or undo.
Before the next run, commit or back up your work, keep the agent inside the project folder, and require approval for terminal commands and deletes.
Report it to the tool with the prompt, the log and the version number, so it can be reproduced.
